Well Woman Visits

Having a yearly well-woman exam is one of the best things you can do for your health. Tracye Zlobl, MD, and the medical team at Wellness for Women offer comprehensive preventive care during annual well-woman visits, helping women in and around Naples, Florida, take control of their health with health screenings, tests, and critical lifestyle guidance tailored to their needs. Well-woman exams are important for women at every age, and scheduling an exam is as simple as picking up the phone and calling Wellness for Women or booking online.

What is a well-woman visit?

During these exams, your provider at Wellness for Women will perform many of the same evaluations you’d expect in a routine physical exam you might have with a primary care doctor, but the entire exam will focus on the unique medical and health needs of women.

Well-woman visits help women be proactive in their healthcare by helping them get the care they need as they pass through different stages of life. Plus, well-woman exams provide the team with the opportunity to look for subtle signs of disease or other conditions so they can be treated as early as possible. Having a well-woman exam with Wellness for Women ensures women receive care and medical advice that’s tailored to their specific needs.

What happens during a well-woman visit?

Before the patient even gets to the exam room, the visit begins with a complete medical history including her own personal health information as well as information about her close family members. The provider will weigh the patient and take her blood pressure, and then they will perform other evaluations, including a clinical breast exam, and in most cases, a pelvic exam which may include a Pap test or HPV test.

Your provider will ask about any unusual symptoms like irregular menstrual cycles, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, and other symptoms. Then depending on the patient’s specific needs and risk factors, your provider may perform or recommend medical screenings or additional tests, or provide guidance about contraception, STDs, family planning, menopause, or other issues.

And finally, the patient will have the chance to discuss her health-related concerns and ask questions about any treatment or tests Wellness for Women recommends.

What kinds of tests and medical screenings should I have?

The team at Wellness for Women is skilled in determining which health screenings a woman should have based on her medical history and other factors. Some of the most common medical screenings the team may recommend include:

  • STD screening
  • Blood glucose measurements
  • Bone mineral density testing (also called DEXA)
  • Cholesterol and triglyceride measurements
  • Colon cancer screening
  • Mammograms
  • Hormone testing

Be sure to provide the team with a complete medical history to ensure the most appropriate screenings are prescribed.
